Duran Junior High School Mission Statement

The primary purpose of Duran Jr. High School is to guide our students in the transition from elementary to high school by offering instruction geared toward diverse learning styles and the academic skills and knowledge they will need to become self-sufficient individuals.

Beliefs

1. All students should be treated with respect and valued as an individual.

2. Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs.

3. Teachers, administrators, parents, and community share the responsibility for the continuous improvement of the school.

4. The main objective of the school should always be academic advancement for all students.

5. Access to a variety of technological advances better prepares students for high school and college.

6. A commitment to continuous improvement is imperative if our school is going to enable students to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners.

7. All students are capable of learning and deserve the opportunity to learn in a safe and supporting school environment.

8. Curriculum and instructional practices should incorporate a variety of learning activities to accommodate differences in learning styles.

General Information about DJHS

Duran Junior High School is located at 309 Williamson Drive in the rapidly growing community of Pell City, Alabama. The school first opened its doors to enroll students for the 1967-1968 school year. DJHS is part of Pell City Schools, a system first formed in 1982 when it separated from St. Clair County Schools. The school houses eighth grade students , which includes 321 students as of March 2010. The mascot for the school, as well as for Pell City High School, is the black panther. The colors are black and gold. Students who attend DJHS are involved in many activities such as sports, clubs, newspaper, yearbook, Scholars' Bowl, and choir.
